As a collector of egg plates I was excited to receive this beautiful orange / red egg plate from my husband Steve on Valentine’s Day 2010. I had seen this dish earlier on a shopping trip to California Central Coast antique stores, but had resisted the urge to purchase.
This oval plate measures 10 3/8″ x 12 7/8″ and has 10 indentations for holding deviled eggs. There is a center divider in the relish section. Each indentation has a cut star design. I have not yet researched the manufacturer and date and welcome information.
Have you found more information about this plate? My mother-in-law received a piece of this type of glass every year for her birthday. This would have been in the late ’30s and early ’40s. She said it was called Sun and Moon glass, but I have yet to find any information about this glass coloring.
Thanks,
Laurian
I have found that the color is Amberina. Fenton glass produced a lot of items in this color.
The pattern is Moon and Star and it was made by L. E. Smith Glass Company — unless it has the name Weishar written in the glass. Weishar Enterprises, (which also owns Island Mould & Machine Co.) was the owner of most of the Moon & Star pattern molds that were used by L.E. Smith, and at some point Weishar started having his own egg plates produced, so added his signature.
Good morning Lianne,
Thank you for the information. I will check for the signature. It is a beautiful plate.
I just got one of these in Victor, CO. Beautiful.
Nice to hear from another collector. The Moon and Star plate is beautiful and so unusual. I hope you are enjoying the posts on using egg plates for treats other than deviled eggs. Add your ideas for new uses. I enjoy trying new recipes for “small treats” that can be served more attractively on an egg plate.
