Elegant Black and White Fiestaware Egg Plates

Nothing brings to mind an elegant and formal occasion quite like the combination of black and white dinnerware and these Fiestaware egg plates are certainly no exception.  Harkening to formal dinners with gentlemen in tuxedos with white or black tie, using these two egg plates together can add a touch of formality and elegance to even the most casual of backyard dining situations, or can serve handsomely on a holiday table dressed to the nines.  As is so often true of Fiestaware, the choice of how to mix and match to create different looks and moods is entirely yours across a wide spectrum of possibility.

It probably goes without saying, but the Fiestaware egg plates above are shown in the following colors, from back to front:

Black (produced 1986 – 2014)

White (produced 1986 – present)

When I first started to become aware of Fiestaware I was surprised that black and white were included in the color palate because the other colors were so much more, well, colorful and bright.  Black and white seemed too traditional and maybe even, dare I say it, boring, to be included in such an otherwise fun and young line of chinaware.  But, with time, the elegance and formality of the combination grows and I am sorry to see that Black Fiestaware is now to be a thing of the past, although the selection of available pieces is still wide and well stocked at the Fiesta Factory Store.

The retirement of black makes white and cobalt blue the only remaining of the original five colors in which Fiestaware was reintroduced in 1986.  Turquoise, from 1988, however, continues, but all other colors introduced between 1986 and 2001 have since been discontinued, a total of now 13 colors that have come and gone from the earlier times.  But, the discontinuations are ongoing with an additional 6 of the colors introduced from 2005 – 2012 having disappeared as well.  Who can guess which color, or colors, will be the next to be “retired?”
